Dental for less, looking to get a dental root canal done
I am in need of a root canal and I am told by my dentist I will also more then likely need to have it crowned. I do not have dental insurance and been paying for my own dental care. However when the cost is going to be more then my credit care limit I start to really realize that I need some help.
I am looking for dental insurance where I can stay with my dentist and not have to long of a waiting period. My tooth does not hurt right now and the dentist said I could try and baby it for a while but says it should be done as soon a possible. He told me the plans they take normally have waiting periods so I am aware of them just looking for the best possible plan. Thanks.

For many PPO’s dental insurance plan they have the waiting periods but are normally the type of plan that would want to get in order to stay with your dentist. Unless you dentist is a provider of any HMO dental insurance which by the way you worded you question it does not sound like they are.
HMO dental insurance plans will normally not have the long waiting periods for major dental work but you have to choose a dentist in their plan network of provider.
This web site offer both of these type of dental insurance plan depending on the state you live in. I would suggest starting here and seeing if one of the plans will fit your needs.

It does sound like your dentist may only take PPO’s but ask and find out. You would be better off with an HMO dental insurance plan at this point but if you want to stay with your dentist then finding out what they are a provider of will help your search.

Most of the PPO’s dental plans I have seen have waiting periods for crowns anywhere from 1 2 -18 months. If your tooth is not hurting you now it will more then likely hurt by the time the waiting period comes up.
Four years ago I was in the same position as you. I needed to have a root canal and crown too and staying with my dentist was important. But in the end it came down to what I could afford to do and what made the best sense for me at the time.
I got the HMO and had what I needed done. Every thing worked out fine. Since I still wanted to go back to my original dentist I got a dental PPO but kept the HMO until my waiting periods were over. Once that happen I cancel the HMO and only kept the PPO and now I am happy again with my dentist.
